Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a 1977 science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg that follows the story of a group of people who attempt to contact extraterrestrial life. The group then embarks on an expedition to meet a group of aliens that have come to Earth. Along the way, Neary and the others discover the truth behind the alien’s visit and learn more about the mysteries of the universe. The film has been praised for its special effects and its story of human-alien contact, and is considered a classic of the science fiction genre.

Neil is searching for love and acceptance, while Brian is trying to understand why he was abused and is terrified of his repressed memories. In the end, the two must confront their painful past and come to terms with their traumas in order to move forward in life.
