Schindler's List is a 1993 American epic historical drama film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and written by Steven Zaillian. The film is based on the novel Schindler's Ark by Australian novelist Thomas Keneally and it is based on the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. The film stars Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, Ralph Fiennes as SS Officer Amon Göth, and Ben Kingsley as Schindler's Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern. The film documents the struggles of Oskar Schindler to save his Jewish workers from being sent to the concentration camps during the Holocaust. In a series of dramatic and suspenseful scenes, Schindler strives to convince Nazi officials to spare the lives of his workers. The film also portrays a powerful moral story of courage and humanity in the face of evil and terror. Schindler's List was critically acclaimed and won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
