Alien is a science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott. Set in the year 2122, a commercial space tug is on its way back to Earth when it responds to a distress call from a nearby moon. The crew of the space tug, Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt), Executive Officer Kane (John Hurt), Navigator Lambert (Veronica Cartwright), Science Officer Ash (Ian Holm), Warrant Officer Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), and Engineers Parker (Yaphet Kotto) and Brett (Harry Dean Stanton) investigate the source of the distress call and discover a derelict spacecraft. Inside, they find a large chamber containing thousands of eggs, from which a creature emerges and attaches itself to Kane's face. The crew attempts to remove the creature but is unsuccessful, and they are forced to return to their ship with Kane still alive but in a comatose state. Back aboard the Nostromo, the crew discovers that the creature is an alien life form, and its purpose is to reproduce and spread its species.
