The Martian is a science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and released in 2015. It stars Matt Damon as Mark Watney, an astronaut left behind on Mars by his crewmates. With limited supplies and no way to contact Earth, Watney must use his knowledge of science and engineering to survive and eventually find a way to return home. Along the way, he must rely on the help of his crewmates, who are still on their way back to Earth, and the support of the international community. The Martian is a thrilling exploration of science, engineering and the human spirit in the face of unthinkable adversity.

Total Recall is a 1990 science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Ronald Shusett, Dan O’Bannon, and Gary Goldman. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as construction worker Douglas Quaid, the film follows his journey as he discovers he is actually a secret agent from Mars with implanted false memories. Quaid discovers he was a secret agent sent on a mission to save Mars from a despotic ruler, and now must fight off assassins and travel to Mars to finish the mission. Along the way, he uncovers a number of shocking revelations about his true identity and the people he thought he could trust. Featuring an excellent blend of action, sci-fi, and comedy, Total Recall is an excellent example of Verhoeven’s work and an underrated classic of the sci-fi action genre.
