The Revenant is a 2015 American survival drama film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and written by Mark L. Smith and Iñárritu, based in part on Michael Punke's 2002 novel of the same name. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass, a frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820s who is mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. It follows Glass on a quest for revenge against the men who betrayed him. After he is left for dead, Glass is subject to unimaginable grief and suffering as he navigates a vicious winter in uncharted terrain. He is also challenged by the constant threat of his enemies and the relentless pursuit of an animal that still haunts him. The film received critical acclaim and won several awards, including three Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor, and the Academy Award for Best Director for Iñárritu, making him the first Mexican director to win it. It was also nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
