The Hunt for Red October is a 1990 American action-adventure spy film directed by John McTiernan. It is based on Tom Clancy's 1984 bestselling novel of the same name. The film follows Soviet submarine captain Marko Ramius (Sean Connery) as he attempts to defect to the United States with his officers and the revolutionary Russian nuclear sub, Red October. As a cat-and-mouse game ensues, CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) works to prove Ramius' intentions and prevent a nuclear disaster. The film also stars Scott Glenn, Sam Neill, James Earl Jones, and Tim Curry. The Hunt for Red October received critical acclaim and was a commercial success, grossing over $200 million worldwide.
