Tales from the Golden Age is a 2009 Romanian comedy film consisting of five interconnected short stories directed by five different directors. Set in the final years of the Ceaușescu regime, the stories follow the lives of everyday citizens attempting to make the best of their lives despite the oppressive and chaotic environment. Through dark humor, the film explores the absurdities of living in a totalitarian state, as well as the resilience of the heroes as they try to find joy and purpose in their lives. The tales feature a range of characters, including a secret policeman, a tax collector, and a black marketer. In the end, the characters manage to outwit their oppressors and find moments of joy and happiness in their lives.
