Mysterious Skin is a 2004 indie drama film written and directed by Gregg Araki, and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet. The film follows the lives of two young boys, Neil and Brian, who suffer from the repercussions of a past trauma they experienced as eight-year-olds. Neil is a teenage hustler whose promiscuity is a symptom of his repressed memory of being sexually molested, while Brian believes he was abducted by aliens. As they grow older, the two confront the truth of their past and attempt to make sense of the events that have shaped their lives. The film is a heartbreaking exploration of the power of trauma and how it can haunt us long after the event has passed.
