The Shining is a horror film by Stanley Kubrick released in 1980. It tells the story of Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, who takes the job of winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He takes his family with him, but soon finds himself haunted by a powerful supernatural force. Jack's son Danny has psychic visions of the hotel's horrific past and begins to communicate with a mysterious presence. As Jack's mental state begins to deteriorate, he becomes increasingly violent, threatening to harm his wife and son. His descent into madness eventually leads him to confront the ghosts of the past and face the consequences of his actions.
