Life of Brian is a British satirical comedy film directed by Terry Jones and released in 1979. It follows the life of Brian Cohen, a young Jewish man born on the same day as Jesus Christ in the ancient city of Bethlehem. The film follows his life as he lives his life in the shadow of Jesus, being mistaken for the Messiah by many of the people he meets. Through a series of misadventures and politically incorrect situations, Brian finds himself on trial before the Roman authorities. The film's comedy is aimed at satirizing religion, religious belief, and institutions such as the Roman Empire and organized religion. The film was controversial upon its release, and remains so today.

The film is a three-hour dramatization of Jesus' life, from his baptism by John the Baptist to his resurrection. The film is faithful to the Biblical text, with some minor changes to help the story along. Along the way, Jesus heals the sick, performs miracles, meets with his disciples, and ultimately faces persecution from the authorities. In its portrayal of Jesus, the film emphasizes his humanity and compassion, rather than his divine nature.

The Last Temptation of Christ is a 1988 film directed by Martin Scorsese and based on the novel of the same name written by Nikos Kazantzakis. As Jesus is tempted by Satan, he begins to question his own faith, and wonders if he is the true Son of God or just a man. Ultimately, Jesus must choose between his human and divine natures, and whether or not to fulfill the mission that he believes was given to him by God. The film is a powerful meditation on faith and the struggle between good and evil within the human experience.
