Cast Away is the story of Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks), a FedEx systems engineer whose plane crashes and leaves him stranded on a deserted island. He is forced to survive on his own and endure the physical and emotional hardships of his new solitary life. With nothing but his ingenuity and resourcefulness, Chuck eventually learns to cope with his new environment and builds an unlikely friendship with a volleyball he names Wilson. After four years, Chuck manages to escape the island and return home. With a newfound appreciation for life, he is determined to make the most of the time he has left.

Battle Royale is a 2000 Japanese dystopian action film directed by Kinji Fukasaku. It is based on the 1999 novel of the same name by Koushun Takami. The film follows a group of junior high school students who are forced to fight each other to the death in a survival game, in order to prevent a major rebellion from occurring. The film is seen as a social commentary, as it portrays a brutal government killing off its own citizens in order to maintain control. The film has since become a cult classic, and has inspired numerous other films, television series, and novels.
