The Hunt for Red October is a 1990 Cold War spy thriller film directed by John McTiernan, starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. It is based on the 1984 novel of the same name by Tom Clancy. The film follows Soviet submarine captain Marko Ramius (Connery) who plans to defect to the United States with his officers and the advanced nuclear submarine Red October. CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Baldwin) is sent to investigate and must work with other American forces to prevent the KGB from stopping Ramius and the submarine. With its twisting plot, the film received critical acclaim and was a box office success, becoming the sixth highest-grossing film of 1990.
