The Exorcist is a horror film directed by William Friedkin and released in 1973. The movie centers on the demonic possession of the 12-year-old girl Reagan MacNeil and her mother's desperate attempts to save her. Her mother, Chris, seeks the help of Father Damien Karras, a priest who is struggling with his own faith, and Father Lankester Merrin, an experienced exorcist. The two priests battle the devil inside Reagan as her body is taken over by an evil presence. Reagan's behavior turns increasingly violent, as she throws furniture and utters strange words. The priests must battle their own doubts and fears as they attempt to save Reagan's soul. The film is filled with intense and frightening scenes that has become iconic in the horror genre. In the end, Father Karras and Father Merrin are able to defeat the devil and Reagan is ultimately saved.
