Oldboy is a 2003 South Korean psychological thriller film directed by Park Chan-wook. The film stars Choi Min-sik as Oh Dae-su, a man who is inexplicably released from a private prison after 15 years of confinement and goes on a violent quest to find his captor and the reason for his imprisonment. Along the way, he discovers dark secrets about his past. The film won numerous awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and the Saturn Award for Best International Film at the 2005 Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.

Mommy is a 2014 Canadian drama film written and directed by Xavier Dolan. It follows the story of Diane "Die" Després (Anne Dorval) a widowed single mother who is struggling to raise her troubled and rebellious teenage son, Steve (Antoine-Olivier Pilon). After Steve is expelled from school for violently attacking a classmate, Die is forced to seek help from Kyla (Suzanne Clément), a quirky neighbor who helps her cope with her son's explosive behavior. Through Kyla, Die discovers a way to deal with her son's tantrums and begins to understand him in a new and profound way. As Die and Steve's relationship evolves, they eventually come to terms with their past and accept each other as they are. The film was well received by critics, and won numerous awards, including the Jury Prize at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

Legends of the Fall is a sweeping romantic epic set in the early 1900s in Montana, directed by Edward Zwick. It follows the lives of the three Ludlow brothers—Alfred, Samuel, and Tristan—and the love triangle between them, Susannah, and Colonel William Ludlow. After Samuel is killed in World War I, Tristan sets out on a personal quest of revenge and redemption that takes him far away from home. Along the way, he finds love, but also bitter heartache, as Susannah remains torn between the two brothers. As the brothers come to terms with their grief, they must also come to terms with the consequences of their actions, and each must find their own way to peace.
