The Kite Runner is a 2007 American drama film directed by Marc Forster, based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Khaled Hosseini. The plot follows an Afghani-American man (played by Khalid Abdalla) who returns to his native country of Afghanistan to help rescue the son of his childhood friend. The story is set in the late 1970s in Kabul, Afghanistan. The film follows two young boys, Amir (Zekiria Ebrahimi) and Hassan (Ahmad Khan Mahmidzada), who are best friends despite the disparity between their classes. Hassan is an ethnic Hazara while Amir is a Pashtun. After an event that changes their lives forever, Amir and Hassan are forced to flee to America. Many years later, Amir (Abdalla) is a successful writer living in California, when his friend Rahim Khan (Homayoun Ershadi) calls him back to Kabul.
