The film follows the two main characters through their mundane daily routine of dealing with customers, debating pop culture topics, and getting into trouble. Though the characters lack ambition and direction in life, they still manage to form a unique bond as they debate topics like relationships, religion, and mortality. Throughout the course of the film, Dante and Randal are faced with various obstacles such as a robbery, a power outage, and an angry customer, which the two must overcome. In the end, the two characters manage to find a way to come together and make it through their day, no matter how chaotic it may be. Clerks is hailed as a cult classic and is considered one of the greatest independent films ever made.
