A Single Man is a 2009 American drama film based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. The film follows the story of George Falconer (Colin Firth), a depressed, middle-aged college professor living in Southern California in 1962. After the death of his long-term partner, Jim, George finds himself struggling to find meaning and purpose in his life. With the help of his close friend Charley (Julianne Moore), George attempts to come to terms with his grief and loneliness and decides to live one day at a time. As the day progresses, George encounters many people, some of whom remind him of Jim, and reflects upon his past and future.
