The Shining is a horror film written and directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. The film stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, and Danny Lloyd, and tells the story of Jack Torrance, a recovering alcoholic, who takes a job as a winter caretaker at a haunted, secluded hotel. Jack and his family move into the hotel and, as the weeks go by, Jack slowly becomes consumed by the mysterious, supernatural forces of the hotel. His son, Danny, begins to have visions of terrifying events that have happened in the past, while Jack's wife Wendy becomes increasingly frightened by her husband's strange behaviour. As the winter progresses and his sanity deteriorates, Jack begins to lose touch with reality and descends into a violent and terrifying madness. Ultimately, Jack and his family must fight for their lives as they battle the supernatural forces of the hotel.

The Innocents is a psychological horror film directed by Jack Clayton and starring Deborah Kerr as Miss Giddens, a governess who is hired to look after two children, Miles and Flora, at a seemingly idyllic country estate. Miss Giddens soon discovers that the estate is haunted by the spirits of the previous governess, Miss Jessel, and her lover, Peter Quint. Despite the warnings of the estate's housekeeper, Miss Giddens is determined to protect the children from the ghostly presence, and gradually comes to suspect that the children are possessed by the souls of their dead caretakers. The Others is a psychological horror film directed by Alejandro Amenábar and starring Nicole Kidman. After Grace hires three servants, strange and unsettling events begin to occur. It quickly becomes clear that the house is haunted by spirits from Grace's past, and her children are caught up in a supernatural battle between good and evil. In the end, Grace discovers the truth of her past and how it affects her present and future.
