Stranger Than Fiction is a 2006 romantic comedy-drama directed by Marc Forster. The film stars Will Ferrell as Harold Crick, an IRS agent whose mundane life is suddenly disrupted when he starts hearing an author's narrating voice in his head. Harold discovers that the voice is that of an acclaimed author, Kay Eiffel (Emma Thompson), and he realizes that he has become a character in her latest work-in-progress novel. With the help of literary professor Jules Hilbert (Dustin Hoffman), Harold tries to find a way to change his story and avoid the tragic ending that Kay has planned for him. Along the way, he meets a quirky but attractive baker (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and reevaluates his isolated lifestyle, learning to embrace the joys of life before the inevitable conclusion.
