The Shining is a psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick that follows the story of Jack Torrance, a recovering alcoholic writer and recovering alcoholic who takes a job as the winter caretaker of the isolated, historic Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. Torrance is accompanied by his wife Wendy and their young son Danny, who possesses "the shining", an array of psychic abilities that allow him to see the horrific past of the hotel. When the family arrives at the hotel, they are haunted by ghosts of the past that begin to drive Jack insane as he struggles to protect his family from the terror within. As Jack's sanity begins to unravel, it is up to Danny to use his psychic abilities to save his family from the malicious forces of the hotel.
