The Shining is a psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick that follows the story of Jack Torrance, a recovering alcoholic writer and recovering alcoholic who takes a job as the winter caretaker of the isolated, historic Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. Torrance is accompanied by his wife Wendy and their young son Danny, who possesses "the shining", an array of psychic abilities that allow him to see the horrific past of the hotel. When the family arrives at the hotel, they are haunted by ghosts of the past that begin to drive Jack insane as he struggles to protect his family from the terror within. As Jack's sanity begins to unravel, it is up to Danny to use his psychic abilities to save his family from the malicious forces of the hotel.

The Sixth Sense is a supernatural horror-thriller directed by M. Night Shyamalan. As Crowe gets closer to discovering the truth behind Cole's extraordinary powers, he realizes that the dangers they face are far more terrifying than anything he could have imagined. The film features a powerful twist ending that has become iconic in modern cinema. The Sixth Sense received overwhelmingly positive reviews and went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of 1999, earning six Academy Award nominations and winning one for Best Supporting Actor (Osment).

The Others is a tense and atmospheric film, driven by an excellent performance from Kidman and an unsettling score from Amenábar's frequent collaborator, composer Javier Navarrete.
