Eat Drink Man Woman is a 1994 Taiwanese comedy-drama film directed by Ang Lee. It follows the story of a retired Taiwanese chef, Mr. Chu, and his three daughters. As each of the daughters approaches adulthood, Mr. Chu attempts to reconcile the traditional values of his Confucian upbringing with the modern realities of life in contemporary Taipei. Throughout the film, the emphasis is on food, which serves as a metaphor for the complex relationships between the characters. The movie culminates in a lavish banquet that Mr. Chu prepares as a gesture of reconciliation with his daughters. In the end, all four characters come to better understand one another and the generational gaps between them.
