Dead Alive is a 1992 black comedy horror film directed by Peter Jackson and starring Timothy Balme. The film follows Lionel, a young man living in a suburban town in New Zealand, who is trying to keep his domineering mother from finding out about his girlfriend, Paquita. When his mother is bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey, she begins to transform into a zombie and spread the curse to his neighbors. Lionel must then battle an army of the undead and an evil priest in order to protect his loved ones. With over-the-top action and gory special effects, Dead Alive is a hilarious and outrageous horror comedy that has become a cult classic.
