The Iron Giant is a 1999 animated adventure film directed by Brad Bird and based on the novel The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. Set in 1957, the film tells the story of a young boy, Hogarth Hughes, who discovers a giant metal robot who fell from the sky. After befriending the robot, Hogarth must protect him from a paranoid government agent, Kent Mansley, who is determined to destroy the Iron Giant. With the help of a beatnik artist named Dean McCoppin, Hogarth works to hide the giant and the two soon become unlikely friends. As the two bond over their shared loneliness, Hogarth must protect the Iron Giant from Mansley who will stop at nothing to see the robot destroyed. In the end, the Iron Giant is able to prove his worth and save the day, demonstrating the power of friendship and heroism.
