The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. The film stars Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, a writer who takes a job as the off-season caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. Accompanied by his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and son Danny (Danny Lloyd), Jack hopes to use the solitude of the hotel to work on a play. However, Jack slowly descends into madness due to the supernatural forces inhabiting the hotel and his own inner demons. Wendy and Danny attempt to survive the hotel’s danger and Jack’s increasingly violent behavior, while battling supernatural entities that haunt the hotel. In the end, the film culminates in a violent confrontation between Jack and Wendy.

Overcome with paranoia, Miss Giddens begins to believe the children have been corrupted by evil spirits, leading to a horrifying ending. The film is acclaimed for its chilling atmosphere and gripping tension, and is renowned as one of the best adaptations of James’ work.
