Walkabout is a 1971 British drama film directed by Nicolas Roeg and starring Jenny Agutter, Luc Roeg, and David Gulpilil. Set in the Australian Outback, the film tells the story of two young siblings, a teenage girl and her younger brother, who are stranded in the desert after their father commits suicide. With no way to return home, they meet a young Aboriginal named Gulpilil, who helps them survive in the harsh environment by teaching them how to forage for food and build shelter. Along their journey, the trio must confront both the harsh landscape and their own inner fears as they search for a way back home.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is a 1994 Australian comedy-drama road movie written and directed by Stephan Elliott. The film tells the story of two drag queens, Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) and Adam (Guy Pearce), and a transgender woman, Felicia (Terence Stamp), who contract to perform a drag show at a resort in Alice Springs. They head west from Sydney aboard their lavender bus, named Priscilla, and while on the road they encounter various groups and individuals who help and hinder their journey. The trio's outrageous costumes and flamboyant behavior make them a target for discrimination and violence, but they ultimately prove that courage and acceptance can transcend social norms. Along the way, they learn to accept each other and to embrace their diverse identities. The movie was a commercial and critical success, earning numerous awards and nominations, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design. It is now considered a cult classic and has served as an inspiration and influence to many LGBTQ+ filmmakers and creators.
