The Muppet Christmas Carol is a 1992 American musical fantasy comedy-drama film directed by Brian Henson and produced by Jim Henson Productions. The film is an adaptation of the Charles Dickens' 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, featuring the Muppets in the roles of the story's various characters. The film stars Michael Caine as the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, alongside Muppet performers Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson, and Frank Oz, all of whom perform multiple roles. The Muppet Christmas Carol follows the same basic story as the original novella, with many changes to the plot and characters. Scrooge is portrayed as a shrewd businessman, and the film tells the story of how his cold and callous ways lead him to become a lonely old man. The Muppets, with their cheerful and warm personalities, help to show Scrooge that the Christmas spirit is alive and well and that true love and friendship can bring happiness. The film also features musical numbers performed by the Muppets and features original songs composed for the film by Paul Williams.
