The defenders, greatly outnumbered, use a variety of ingenious tactics to hold off the attack, while sending a rider to get help from the nearest British troops. The film culminates in a spectacular clash between the two sides, with the British ultimately triumphant. The film is noted for its realistic portrayal of the Zulus, its spectacular battle scenes, and the strong performances of its cast. It was a commercial success, and is widely considered one of the greatest war films of all time.
