Delicatessen is a 1991 French post-apocalyptic black comedy film directed by Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Set in a dilapidated apartment building above a delicatessen in a post-apocalyptic future, the film follows the landlord's attempts to feed his tenants by any means necessary. The tenants, an eccentric cast of characters, must face not only starvation, but also the landlord's increasingly desperate measures to find food. A love story also develops between the landlord's daughter, Julie, and a former circus clown, Louison. The film blends elements of dark comedy and drama, with a strong sense of the surreal. It is a critically acclaimed, award-winning film, and it has since become a cult classic.
