Years later, Amir is offered a chance to redeem himself when his father's servant, Rahim Khan, summons him back to Kabul. Upon his return, Amir learns of his friend Hassan's plight. Hassan has been wrongfully accused of a crime and Amir is determined to help him. He sets out on a dangerous journey to a refugee camp in Pakistan, where he discovers the truth about Hassan's fate. Amir returns to Kabul filled with guilt and shame for not helping Hassan. In the end, he must confront his own demons, confront the Taliban regime and make peace with his past in order to find redemption.
