Psycho is a 1960 American psychological horror classic directed and produced by Alfred Hitchcock. It follows the story of Marion Crane, a secretary who embezzles money from her boss and flees to the Bates Motel in the fictional town of Fairvale, California. When Marion arrives, she meets the motel's proprietor, Norman Bates, a strange and mysterious man who appears to have a troubled past. Things take a sinister turn when Marion is murdered in the Bates Motel, and her sister and her lover search for her. Through a series of twists and turns, the audience discovers that Norman is a schizophrenic and that he has been influenced by his domineering mother, who has been dead for years. The tension builds to a climax as the characters are forced to face the terrifying truth of Norman's past.

The Shining is a psychological horror film directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King. It stars Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic who takes a job as the winter caretaker of the isolated historic Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. His young son Danny is a psychic with a special gift known as “the shining”, which allows him to see past, present, and future events. As Jack becomes increasingly unstable, Danny, his son, and his wife Wendy become threatened by the supernatural forces in the hotel, which include a murderous past caretaker. With mounting tension and suspense, the family is ultimately forced to confront the evil that resides in the hotel.
