Alien is a science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott and released in 1979. It follows the crew of the commercial towing spaceship, Nostromo, as they encounter a hostile alien life form that is intent on killing them all. This "xenomorph" quickly starts to pick off the crew one by one, leaving only Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) to battle the creature in a desperate fight for survival. With the help of an android, Ash (Ian Holm), Ripley must devise a way to stop the alien and make it off the ship alive. The film is filled with suspenseful and intense moments as Ripley battles the creature and its offspring in a struggle for her very life.

With the help of a robot named EVE, WALL·E embarks on a journey across the galaxy to return the plant to its rightful home. Along the way, they discover the true beauty and importance of human life, as they both learn to love and care for one another.

Along the way, there are numerous encounters with HAL, the intelligent computer, and the ending of the film is left open for interpretation. 2001: A Space Odyssey is a classic science fiction film that has left a lasting impact on the genre and inspired numerous other works of science fiction, from books to movies.

Solaris is a 1972 sci-fi film directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, based on a novel by Stanisław Lem. The film follows Kris Kelvin, a psychologist sent to a space station orbiting a mysterious planet called Solaris. On the station, the crew has been studying the planet, which appears to be sentient and capable of creating physical manifestations of their crew members' repressed thoughts and memories. Kelvin must come to terms with the traumatic events of his past, as well as the strange behavior of the planet, in order to find a way to save the crew and make sense of the mysteries of Solaris.

The pair must fight against all odds to make it back to Earth safely. In the film, Gravity examines the physical and psychological effects of zero gravity on human beings as well as the beauty and fragility of life in space. The film received widespread critical acclaim and was a box office success, becoming the highest-grossing October release of all time.

Apollo 13 is a 1995 American historical docudrama film directed by Ron Howard. Based on the book Lost Moon (co-written by commander Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger), the film portrays the 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission, which was intended to be the third lunar landing. After an on-board explosion damages the spacecraft and endangers the crew, the astronauts must devise a plan to get back to Earth safely. The crew, led by Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), consists of Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon), Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), and Lovell's fellow Gemini veteran and Apollo 8 astronaut, Ken Mattingly (Gary Sinise). With the help of Mission Control in Houston, the crew uses the Lunar Module as a lifeboat, and the crew eventually manages to return safely to Earth.

Dark City is a 1998 science fiction film directed by Alex Proyas, starring Rufus Sewell, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, and William Hurt. The movie follows John Murdoch (Sewell), who awakens one night with no memory and finds himself on the run from a group of mysterious figures known as The Strangers. He discovers that he is part of an experiment in which people's memories and personalities are being manipulated by a group of aliens who control the mysterious city they live in. With the help of Dr. Daniel Schreber (Hurt) and his assistant, Emma (Connelly), Murdoch fights back and discovers the secrets of the Strangers and the city. Ultimately, Murdoch is able to defeat the aliens, free the city, and restore his own memories.
