300 is a 2006 epic war film directed by Zack Snyder and based on the 1998 comic series of the same name by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. The film tells the story of the Battle of Thermopylae, in which 300 Spartans under the command of King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) fought to the death against an overwhelming Persian army. With their superior fighting skills, strategy and superior weapons, the Spartans manage to hold off the Persians for three days, until a treacherous act by Ephialtes (Andrew Tiernan) leads to their demise. Ultimately, the Spartans' courage, loyalty and honor serve as a symbol of strength and courage for the rest of Greece. Despite their defeat, the Spartans' legacy lives on and inspires the Greeks to unite against the Persians in one final epic battle.
