The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 psychological horror film directed by Jonathan Demme and based on the 1988 novel of the same name by Thomas Harris. It stars Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee who seeks the advice of the incarcerated cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) to catch another serial killer, known as "Buffalo Bill" (Ted Levine). The film follows Clarice's efforts to uncover the identity and motives of Buffalo Bill, while Lecter provides her with cryptic clues and threatening warnings about the killer. Clarice must also confront her own demons as the investigation becomes increasingly personal and dangerous. The Silence of the Lambs won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Hopkins), Best Actress (Foster) and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film has become a classic of the horror genre and is widely considered to be one of the best films of all time.

The film is filled with intense psychological horror, physical horror, and religious themes as the priests attempt to save Regan and her soul.
