Jaws is a 1975 American horror/thriller directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley's novel of the same name. The film centers around a great white shark that terrorizes the fictional seaside resort of Amity Island. Police Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) is tasked with leading the hunt for the shark, along with marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw). As the body count rises, the trio must battle not only the elements and their own fears, but the great white itself. In the end, they succeed in destroying the shark and saving the town, but not without tremendous sacrifice. The film is remembered as a classic in the horror/thriller genre and remains a beloved classic to this day.

The Abyss is a 1989 science fiction film directed by James Cameron. It follows a team of deep sea oil drillers who are recruited by the US Navy to search for a lost submarine. Meanwhile, they discover an alien species living deep below the ocean surface. As they journey into the depths of the ocean, the team is pitted against the forces of nature, government secrets, and an alien force that has been living in the abyss for centuries. In the end, they must unearth the secrets of the Abyss and save the world from a hostile alien race.
