Oldboy is a 2003 South Korean psychological thriller film directed by Park Chan-wook. It is based on the Japanese manga of the same name written by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya. The film centers around Oh Dae-su (played by Choi Min-sik), who is suddenly kidnapped and held captive in a hotel-like room for 15 years without knowing why. After his release, Dae-su embarks on a quest for vengeance against his captor. The film is noted for its violent and creative cinematography, as well as its twist ending. The film won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, and was critically acclaimed for its direction, performances, and visual style.

As they try to escape the deadly traps set by Jigsaw, they come to understand the killer’s master plan. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised its premise and twist ending. It became a sleeper hit, earning more than $100 million worldwide, and went on to spawn a popular franchise, with seven sequels and two spin-offs.
