Amadeus is a 1984 biographical drama film directed by Milos Forman, based on the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart (Tom Hulce) is a musical prodigy from Vienna who is obsessed with the music of Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham). Salieri is the court composer for Emperor Joseph II (Jeffrey Jones) and is jealous of Mozart's talent. When Mozart's mother dies, Salieri begins to plot against him and attempts to thwart his success. Through a series of events, Salieri poisons Mozart with arsenic and Mozart dies a slow, painful death. The film follows the story of Mozart's life and death and his rivalry with Salieri. Through flashbacks, we also get to see Mozart's relationships with his wife, Constanze (Elizabeth Berridge) and his father, Leopold (Roy Dotrice). In the end, Salieri comes to terms with his jealousy and acknowledges Mozart's greatness.
