The Piano Teacher is a 2001 Austrian psychological drama directed by Michael Haneke. The film follows the story of Erika Kohut, a piano teacher and repressed spinster living with her domineering mother. When a handsome, self-assured student named Walter Klemmer joins the conservatory at which Erika teaches, he becomes infatuated with her and begins to shower her with gifts, including concert tickets and romantic letters. Erika is torn between her desire for Walter and her fear of being exposed. Eventually, her repressed emotions and desires lead her to enter into an extreme, dangerous and ultimately destructive relationship with Walter.
