Bridge of Spies is a 2015 period drama film directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, and Alan Alda. It follows the story of James Donovan, an insurance lawyer who is tasked with negotiating the release of Francis Gary Powers, an American U-2 spy plane pilot who was shot down and captured by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Donovan finds himself thrust into the middle of a tense international incident and negotiates a prisoner exchange between Powers and Rudolph Abel, a Soviet KGB spy captured by the FBI. With the help of his friend Thomas Watters, Donovan embarks on a series of dangerous and challenging negotiations between the two superpowers. Through a series of savvy and daring diplomatic tactics, Donovan succeeds in securing the release of both Powers and Abel, bridging the divide between East and West and becoming a hero of the Cold War.
