Along the way, he discovers a mysterious organization, led by a man known as the ‘Army of the Twelve Monkeys’, which may be responsible for the virus. In the end, it is Cole's journey to save mankind that will truly define his destiny.

After dying in battle, he finds himself in a time loop where he is repeatedly forced to relive the same day over and over. With the help of a fellow soldier named Rita (Blunt), he eventually discovers a way to use the time loop to his advantage and turn the tide of the war. In the end, Major Cage is able to defeat the alien race and end the war.
