Midnight Run is a 1988 action-comedy directed by Martin Brest. It stars Robert De Niro as bounty hunter Jack Walsh, who must transport an embezzling accountant, Jonathan Mardukas (Charles Grodin), from New York to Los Angeles. When Jack is almost immediately double-crossed, he must dodge the FBI, two rival bounty hunters and the mob in order to deliver Mardukas and collect the reward money. Along the way the unlikely pair form a reluctant bond and learn to appreciate each other's skills and strengths. Ultimately, Jack must decide whether making the "midnight run" is worth risking his own freedom.

Forced to go on the run, Blake encounters a Native American named Nobody (Gary Farmer), who believes him to be a reincarnation of the poet William Blake and aids him on his journey. As they venture into the wilderness, they are hunted by a band of bounty hunters led by Dickinson. Along the way, Blake experiences vivid hallucinations, including a vision of a tree of life and a mystical woman. Ultimately, Nobody helps him to confront his pursuers and find redemption in the afterlife.
