A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 darkly satirical drama film directed by Stanley Kubrick and written, produced and based on the 1962 novel by Anthony Burgess. Set in an alternative, dystopian future, the film follows the story of Alex DeLarge, a charismatic and unrepentant juvenile delinquent whose principal interests are classical music, rape and ultra-violence. After being arrested and convicted of murder and sentenced to prison, Alex reluctantly agrees to undergo an experimental form of aversion therapy administered by the government which aims to reduce his violent tendencies. However, the therapy has unforeseen consequences, leaving Alex with a newfound, uncontrollable urge to commit acts of extreme violence. As Alex struggles to cope with his newfound compulsions, he must also confront the moral choices that arise as a result of his actions.
