Munich is a 2005 American historical drama film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Tony Kushner and Eric Roth. It is based on the book Vengeance: The True Story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist Team by George Jonas. The film follows a team of Mossad agents who are assigned to track down and assassinate 11 members of Black September, the Palestinian terror group responsible for the deaths of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics. The team is led by Avner Kaufman, played by Eric Bana, and includes several other agents with different specialties. As Avner and his team go about their mission, they must grapple with the moral implications of their actions and the effects the killing has on their lives and the lives of their families. The film is an exploration of the consequences of violence and vengeance and the struggles of those caught in the middle of a seemingly endless cycle of violence.
