Night of the Living Dead (1968) is a classic horror film written, directed and edited by George A. Romero and co-written by John Russo. The film follows a group of people who take refuge in an abandoned farmhouse after they find themselves surrounded by flesh-eating zombies. The group is led by Ben (Duane Jones), and includes Barbara (Judith O'Dea), Harry Cooper (Karl Hardman), his wife Helen (Marilyn Eastman), their daughter Karen (Kyra Schon), and Tom and Judy (Keith Wayne and Judith Ridley). As the night progresses, the group is slowly picked off by the undead and must fight to survive. In the end, Ben is the only survivor, but is killed by a SWAT team who mistakes him for a zombie. The film ends with a haunting shot of Ben’s corpse. Night of the Living Dead is widely considered to be one of the most influential horror films of all time, and is credited with launching the modern zombie genre.
