The Wicker Man (1973) is a British horror-mystery film written and directed by Robin Hardy. The film centers around a devout Christian police sergeant, Neil Howie, who travels to a small Scottish island in search of a missing girl. Upon arriving, he discovers that the island is ruled by an ancient pagan cult and that the locals practice rituals and customs that clash with his religious beliefs. As Howie investigates further, he discovers that the missing girl is at the center of a sinister plot involving human sacrifice and the evil machinations of Lord Summerisle, the leader of the cult. Howie must overcome his own doubts and confront the cult in a desperate attempt to save the girl and his own rational beliefs.
