Braveheart is a 1995 epic historical drama film directed by and starring Mel Gibson. It depicts the story of 13th century Scottish warrior William Wallace's fight for independence from England. After the death of his father, Wallace joins forces with the Scottish nobles and rises up against the tyrannical rule of King Edward I of England. Wallace rallies his countrymen to fight for their freedom and leads them in a historic battle against the English, ultimately sacrificing his life for his country's independence.
