Braveheart is a 1995 epic historical drama film directed by and starring Mel Gibson. It depicts the story of 13th century Scottish warrior William Wallace's fight for independence from England. After the death of his father, Wallace joins forces with the Scottish nobles and rises up against the tyrannical rule of King Edward I of England. Wallace rallies his countrymen to fight for their freedom and leads them in a historic battle against the English, ultimately sacrificing his life for his country's independence. The film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Trainspotting is a 1996 black comedy film directed by Danny Boyle and written by John Hodge, based on the novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh. The film follows the life of a young drug addict, Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), as he attempts to kick his drug addiction and live a normal life. Renton and his friends struggle with a variety of issues, including poverty, unemployment, drug abuse, and homelessness. Along the way, they find themselves involved in a variety of illegal activities, from stealing and dealing heroin to armed robbery. The film is a darkly humorous depiction of the struggles of a group of young adults in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the consequences of their decisions. Through the characters' experiences, the film examines themes of addiction, social alienation, and redemption.
