The Secret of Kells is a 2009 animated adventure fantasy film co-directed by Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey. Set in medieval Ireland, it follows the story of Brendan, a 12-year-old boy living in the Abbey of Kells. The abbey is under construction and is being threatened by the invading Viking forces, so Brendan is tasked with helping to complete the Book of Kells, an illustrated and illuminated bible that is said to contain the secrets of the Celts and the power to protect the abbey. With the help of his uncle and Aisling, a wild and mysterious forest spirit, Brendan embarks on a magical and dangerous journey to gather the precious and elusive inks and stones needed to complete the book. Along the way he must face his deepest fears, confront the darkness of the Viking forces, and ultimately uncover the secret of the Kells in order to protect the abbey and its inhabitants.
