Aliens is a sci-fi action horror film directed by James Cameron. The movie follows Ellen Ripley, the sole survivor of the space ship Nostromo, who is rescued after drifting through space for 57 years. She is brought to a colonization planet called LV-426, where contact with the colonists has been lost. Ripley joins a squad of marines in an effort to locate and rescue any survivors. The squad soon discovers that the colonists have been wiped out by a hostile alien species known as the Xenomorphs. The marines fight their way through the Xenomorphs and their queen, eventually succeeding in destroying them. However, they are unable to save most of the colonists, and they must fight to escape the planet before the remaining aliens overrun them. The movie was a massive success and is often cited as one of the best science fiction films ever made. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress (Sigourney Weaver). Aliens is widely regarded as one of the greatest action films of all time.
