One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a 1975 American drama film directed by Milos Forman and based on the novel of the same name by Ken Kesey. The film stars Jack Nicholson as Randle Patrick McMurphy, a criminal serving a short sentence on a prison farm, who fakes being insane in order to serve the rest of his time in a mental institution. Once admitted, McMurphy clashes with the ward's authoritarian head nurse, Mildred Ratched, played by Louise Fletcher. He incites the other patients to rebel against her and the oppressive rules of the institution. The film follows McMurphy's struggle against Ratched and his eventual downfall as his rebellion is eventually quashed, resulting in his release from the institution and a tragic end. The film was a critical and commercial success, receiving five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Jack Nicholson), Best Actress (Louise Fletcher), Best Director (Milos Forman), and Best Adapted Screenplay. It is widely considered to be one of the greatest films of all time.

Christopher Lloyd plays the eccentric scientist Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown, inventor of the time-traveling DeLorean, who helps Marty repair history and return to his own time. The film's success spawned two sequels, Back to the Future Part II (1989) and Back to the Future Part III (1990), and an animated series, creating a franchise. It is one of the highest-grossing films of all time worldwide, and it cemented Fox and Lloyd's careers. It is often referred to as one of the greatest films of all time.
