Mysterious Skin is a 2004 American drama film directed by Gregg Araki, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet. It is based on Scott Heim’s 1995 novel of the same name. The film follows two teenage boys who are sexually abused by their Little League coach as children. Eight years later, one of the boys has become a reckless and sexually promiscuous hustler while the other is a withdrawn and emotionally damaged recluse. As they both search for answers, they must confront the difficult memories of their past. Mysterious Skin was met with critical acclaim and won several awards, including various awards at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. It is considered one of Araki’s best films and was praised for its complex and emotionally charged subject matter.
