The Wolf of Wall Street is a 2013 biographical black comedy film based on the memoirs of the same name by Jordan Belfort. The film follows Belfort’s rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government. Directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Belfort, the film also stars Jonah Hill as his business partner Donnie Azoff, Margot Robbie as Belfort's second wife Naomi Lapaglia, and Matthew McConaughey as his mentor, Mark Hanna. The movie chronicles Belfort's career as a stockbroker in New York City and how his firm Stratton Oakmont engaged in rampant corruption and fraud on Wall Street that ultimately led to his downfall. It is a darkly comedic look at the excesses of Wall Street and the financial industry. The film is an exploration of the amorality and greed of the Wall Street financial world, and how Belfort's meteoric rise, spectacular fall, and eventual redemption serve as a cautionary tale for those with the ambition to make it big.
